The Church of Heroes conversion count

Detail of 'Yuuwaku' by Audrey Kawasaki
So.  Because I'm bored over lunch, I decided to catalog the status of my attempts to lure various people into watching Heroes:

spikegoddes:  Tried showing her Unexpected, online.  She was not impressed and kept demanding to know why Zachary Quinto's eyebrows don't scare me.  Finally I gave up, though if I email files to her or send her something in the mail, I always try to slip a picture of him in there to irritate her.  One day, I'll get her, and then I'll mock her mercilessly.

likealongforgottendream:  showed her the rerun of Distractions on Sci Fi, followed by Run! and Unexpected online.  She's the one who initially said, "That guy is fucking creepy and he needs to do something about the eyebrows", but very quickly turned into, "I know I'm supposed to hate him because he cuts people's heads open, but he's just so endearing!"  She's really tight on money so I bought her the DVDs as a present.  Now I'm getting constant text messages about the hotness that is Mohinder, though the adorableness of Hiro is also becoming a frequent subject.  She hasn't worked her way up to Gabriel Gray yet, so I'll be interested to see how that goes.

dream's dad:  he doesn't like anything and only agreed to watch the DVDs because they don't have cable and he couldn't find ANYTHING else tolerable to watch.  By the end of the second episode, he was asking when the new season was going to start.

dream's mom:  she was at least interested from the beginning, and is now completely obsessed.  Her theory was that the Haitian would secretly turn out to be Sylar.  Dream informed her this was wrong.  Now she's insisting that the mysterious Mr. Linderman is going to turn out to be Sylar, even though dream told her again she was wrong.

My brother:  said he's interested, but he's still got a bunch of episodes of last season's Smallville that he's working through on his DVR and wants to finish that before he starts another show.  I think I may have to disown him.  Who wanted to watch Smallville last season?

Sher:  the night that she, E and I drank far far too much wine, I dragged her into the office and made her watch various Sylar and Mohinder highlights online.  Then the Friday before Labor Day, I took my DVDs over and we watched the first three episodes. She then proceeded to watch the entire show over the weekend and couldn't wait to get together and talk to me about it.

E:  pronounced the show to be "gay" and refused to watch it.  However, he was really just pouting because he'd wanted to watch Rob Zombie movies instead.  I was over there on Labor Day watching the final few eps with Sher, and several times he forgot he wasn't supposed to be interested and asked us questions about it.

My parents: "that show has too many plots and way too many characters.  It's too much of a pain to keep all that straight."  Again: disownment is a distinct possibility.

J:  had been rather aloof about it, until Sher and I started chattering away about the show in front of her.  I offered her the DVDs Friday night, and Saturday evening she texted both of us to damn us to hell for essentially giving her crack.  Then she texted demanding to know when she was going to actually get to see Sylar's face, since she'd heard so much about it.

Big Sev: I wasn't even trying to get him addicted, but shortly after J's outburst, he added his curses.  Apparently, instead of going out for the evening, he stayed home to watch with her, and is just as hooked.

So, that's 6 out of 11 who got into it, with another couple who are on the fence.  Which gives me a batting average of around .636.  Not too shabby.

Seriously. I can see no other reason. Everybody in my house has already been informed that tonight they will watch Parasite. Since the next stage in my Master Plan was to make my sister watch the 1-2 punch that is Parasite-.07%, it will mean that, as of 10pm tonight I will be half-way to to either sweet, sweet victory or soul-crushing defeat!

Now, I would never mock you. You just...inspired this. That, and the fact that although I thought I was just being lazy yesterday, I think I'm coming down with something and have a fever, which makes my brain go to irritating places.

Besides, you should never give up on conversion. I tried for weeks to get spikegoddes into Heroes. She was even so offensive as to say that Sylar's eyebrows reminded her of Mr. Bean's. But I expanded my efforts and persevered, and lo, unto the show they did cometh. Or something like that. Time for more cold medicine.

I fail again! I mean, really Parasite? They were not interested in Parasite!? When Hiro got caught trying to steal the sword and he said "I failed," I looked at the TV and said "Me too." This whole ordeal is starting to make me a bit angry. I am starting to think they don't deserve to watch Heroes!

I think the fault is within them, not within you. I mean..seriously! Parasite didn't melt their hearts? Perhaps they are related to my parents, who watched 6MA and were completely unmoved by Gabriel. Completely! I don't know what to say...

They looked into the eye of the mighty Parasite and did not even blink! They must have Chandra-like hearts of stone!

The only thing I can say is that if, as mentioned below, the second season sucks, at least I won't have anyone to answer to. It is only then that I will be able to salvage anything remotely resembling a victory from this entire failed enterprise! ::flings folders Gabriel Gray style::

My batting average is 0 right now.

You just need to be more annoying and nagging, until your friends give in because they can't take it any more. I mean--PERSISTENT. You need to be more persistent. ;0)

Hmmm. I've gotten one friend, one brother, and one boyfriend completely hooked, two other friends and one other brother loyally watching (or at least, watching my dvds, for now), and one mother and several other friends interested in watching (not enough dvds to go around! Especially since they can't be out of my sight for more than a day or two.). I think I've got a decent track record, although I can't say that I've gotten anyone without even remotely trying.

Seriously...if the second season doesn't kick ass? We're going to have a lot of people very angry with us.

Too true. *contemplative face*

Or it could just be like VM, where, even if the rest of the series never quite lives up to the first season (I have yet to see S2, but I got into it at S3 and went back to watch S1 on dvd over the summer), the first season is SO GOOD that it's totally worth watching just for it. Or something.
