Detail of 'Yuuwaku' by Audrey Kawasaki
So I come in this morning and have an email from a friend, about last night's Heroes. The email?

"So who was that at the end? I couldn't tell if it was Peter or Sylar."

Let's just think about that, folks. "I couldn't tell if it was Peter or Sylar." Now admittedly, as a straight man, my friend probably doesn't pay nearly as much attention to males as I do. But he watched all of S1. And Sylar and Pete have completely different voices. And Zachary Quinto and Milo Ventimiglia have very different facial features - good Lord, the eyebrows alone ought to be enough evidence that the guy was not Sylar. I almost made a snotty "What, are you saying all Italians look alike?" remark to him. "I couldn't tell if it was Peter or Sylar."  Sheesh.

In other terrifying news...are thoughts of suicide justified when you take one of those online "Which sci fi character are you?" quizzes, and get THIS as your result?...

That's damn funny. My God. They're hardly the same SPECIES.

They're hardly the same SPECIES.

Ha! I'm going to have to remember that. Along with jimmiefearsylar's sister's question of, "So is Peter the evil mirror image of Sylar?"

You poor, poor girl.

*snicker*

Can I be a Pakled instead? Please?

I took that quiz, and I ended up with Luke Skywalker. At least it's a character I'd heard of, which is more than I can say for most of the others.

Not to mention that most people tend to have fond memories of Luke, whereas Wesley tends to make people look for rocks to throw... *sigh*

I took the quiz and got... the same thing you did. I can't be upset because I know nothing about the kid beyond he was played by Wil Wheaton and he was from TNG. I am assuming the correct response would be rage.. or at least annoyance.

"I couldn't tell if it was Peter or Sylar."
What? Was he watching with his eyes closed? The first step in my house's Heroes training was to ensure that, even before they ever watched an episode, everyone was able to differentiate between "Sylar" and "everyone who is not Sylar". And this guy watched all of season one? Huh.

Wesley Crusher was the ultimate Mary Sue. Because he was Gene Roddenberry's own personal Mary Sue. He was pretty much universally vilified by Trek fans, except for the occasional teenaged female who thought Wil was adorable. It's a shame because Wil appears to have turned out to be a pretty cool guy. But "Shut Up, Wesley" was practically a Trekkie motto when TNG was airing.

differentiate between "Sylar" and "everyone who is not Sylar"

This? Is the optimal way to live one's life. Which reminds me...I don't think I ever saved your series of The 10 Commandments of Gabriel Gray, which included the immortal, "Sylar can murder. You can not murder. You especially can not murder Sylar..." When did you post that? I need to go find it.

Ahh, I see. I know I have run across Wesley-hate from but I did not know it was so widely held. I will have to ask my (Trekkie) mom about this and see what her opinion is.

This? Is the optimal way to live one's life.
It truly is. I figured even if they never watched the show, they would at least have learned that most important of lessons.

I don't think I ever saved your series of The 10 Commandments of Gabriel GraySadly, that was not me. That was tuesday. But if my calculations are correct, it should be around 9/2, because that is the "created on" date of my Virtues, which were inspired by seeing her hilarious (and true) Commandments. (which I immediately saved into the "ha! good one!" motivators folder I sometimes use as a slideshow screensaver.)

Five posts down on this page.

Ah. For some reason, I was thinking the text on those was in the font you use when you make them. *shakes head at self*

And...heh...I had plans to use them as a slideshow screensaver myself...

Hee. I think it's a subtle insult that just conveys the feeling of contempt better. ;0)

Poor Wil Wheaton. It's not really his fault--someone else wrote and approved those scripts--but he's the one who has to face all the hate. I don't know if you've seen his blog at TV Squad, but every so often he reviews an ep of TNG in a really hilarious style, and if he was in the ep he'll talk about his memories and give behind-the-scenes trivia. And he's a total D&D-type dork. It's fun.

Apparently he's all grown up now, but he's like, 5'4"

So he's not really grown "up", then?

Oh, bad jokes, what would my life be like without them...

Are you going to take this opportunity to flood your LJ with Mary Sue fics? XD

I got John Sheridan: "An experienced survivor who has maneuvered around many obstacles, you are looked up to by those who rely on your good judgment." Which is flattering, but a) untrue, and b) a little boring, since I've never seen Babylon 5.

I was going to make a joke, but then I remembered some really wretched Mary Sue fics that an acquaintance once showed me, and now... *shudder*

And I just realized that I don't think I've ever tried to watch Babylon 5. Which is odd...I usually at least try out all the s.f. shows.
