Torchwood Weight Watchers

I thought about writing up some opinions of the new Heroes episodes but...eh. Most of what I would say has been said by other people on my flist, especially . If you're bored, you could check out  the snarky review I wrote after I saw episode 3.01 at Comic Con.

I have baby dragons! Please click on them to help them grow up. And then go to the main cave and steal your own dragon eggs to raise, because it's like crack.

Adopt one today!...Adopt one today!...Adopt one today!...Adopt one today!...Adopt one today!

Also, I discovered a new tarot deck that's not yet finished, that I desperately want to own because the artwork is gorgeous.  It's called the Tarot of Trees, and you should check it out.  If you can't guess, the artist is interpreting tarot symbolism but with trees involved instead of people.  For instance, here's her version of The Lovers:

Totally gorgeous.  If I ever have time, I want to make icons from them.

I still have yet to form a real opinion on Heroes, so I don't have much to add on that, but I have to say thank you for linking to those cards! They are beautiful and I think I kind of love them... especially the Ten of Wands and the Seven of Pentacles. And that is saying something, as usually, in most tarot decks, it's the major Arcana that is the star, and the minor ones are all kind of "ehh.. could have been better." This is the first one I can remember where all of the cards are equally stunning. (And it makes me want to paint something. Which is a both a good thing and a bad thing. Good because it's what I need to be doing. Bad because I have other stuff to do, and don't have the time right now!) I am definitely going to combine some of them into a large image to make my wallpaper, so that I won't forget to keep up with the project. And now.. back to boring, boring non-artsy work. Lame!

I thought that of anyone on my flist, you would be the most likely to love them! I'm glad you do! They're simple yet lovely. I wish I had spare money; she is selling prints of them and there are a couple that I'd love to have up on my wall. But she does have a mailing list, so at least I can keep track of her progress and maybe next year, I can buy one or two. In the meantime...yep, wallpaper-making sounds like an excellent idea...

I love tarot cards and this one looks very pretty. I love the vibrant colors.

Heroes is making it easier to stick to my hiatus. I give it 5 episodes max to iron out the kinks and Maya and Mohinder better be doing something else other than making me ashamed to say I fangirl this show by episode 8. It's still killing me I'll have to put up with 'The Fly' for at least 7 episodes. I hated that movie in the first place so seeing on Heroes makes me pissed off. Also, who has unprotected sex twice or more with a guy who is mutating into a bug? Just fuck no. I hate whoever thought this was an awesome script.
And poor Sendhil wasn't thrilled with it either. I hope he is right and there is a payoff.

Yeah, I'm hoping things get ironed out, too. I don't want to talk too much for fear of spoiling you, but I'm finding that I'm saying 'yeah, but--' quite a lot on first viewing, and when I sit down and think about the plots later, I have even more things that bother me. Also, I think this season does have a much more comic book-y feel. Which is a problem, as I do not like comic books.

I also had a thought about Maya and unprotected sex that made me cringe. If they actually do that kind of soap opera plot, I'm going to kick someone in the nuts.

I hate how the writers thought comic book feel = WTF who gives a toss about logic which is so not true. There are plenty of great comics out there and I don't know why they don't try to emulate those instead of the shit Bad Girls comics was releasing in the 90's which happen to be creepy porn.

Loeb himself has written some of my fave DC and Marvel story arcs so I don't know why I feel like hitting things when I hear about Heroes.

And I was thoroughly spoiled for the Mohinder and Maya scenes, and for whats to come next week which probably means more sex because NBC says their 'romance' intensifies and later he gives into impulse. So I guess he finally rapes her this time. Joy.

I hope that stupid "gives in to impulse" remark refers to something else, because that will just mean that the writers really CAN'T think of any use for Maya other than as a victim. Plus, if Mohinder really tried to force her to do something she didn't want to do...SHE CRIES BLACK TEARS OF DEATH. She should be able to take him out in an instant.

I think my real problem is that the more "comic-y" the show feels, the less realistic it feels. I get irritated with people who say "It's a show about people with superpowers, it's not realistic." The thing about S1 is that it appealed directly to the desire that I think lives in most fanboys and geeks, that just like Arthur pulling the sword out of the stone or Luke Skywalker finding out the Force is strong with him, one day they might miraculously turn out to have a special destiny. In S1, that's what we saw: totally ordinary people who were just as anonymous as the viewers but who discovered they were special and that it wasn't as perfect as they thought it would be. I think that's what made the show connect with viewers. Now, though? By getting "bigger and badder", they may have lost that connection. Grrrr. I completely respect your decision to wait before watching but at the same time, I wish I could just tell you what bugs me! :0) I don't want to harsh the buzz of people who are enjoying it. And I'm not hating it - there are just things that bug me.

You can tell me what bugs you because I am sure we feel the same way. And if you were only one of the few who felt that way, the ratings wouldn't have tanked worse than season two.
My stupid friend who is on her way to being my ex-friend real soon spoiled me for the entire premier, so feel free to tell me your worries and concerns. I want to hear them and I might need to vent some more so I can get all this frustration out of the way before I watch the eps.

That's right - I forgot you'd been spoiled.

I think what's bothering me the most (besides the OOC Mohinder/Maya stuff) is that I feel like there's an awful lot of repetition. Hiro jumps to the future, sees what looks like the end of the world, and decides to stop it! Ummm...wasn't that the plot of season 1? Sylar gets caught by The Company! Hmmm...didn't that happen in S1? And S2? Claire is nervous and angsty and doesn't know how to cope with her abilities and decides to film her attempts to kill herself! Er...wasn't that S1 as well? Niki/whoever gets freaked out when she accidentally kills the slimy man who's threatening her with a power she didn't realize she had! Uh...S1. Plus, there are multiple people on my flist who've said, "You know, I really liked Mohinder's plotline...when it was called 'The Fly' and it was happening to Jeff Goldblum."

So, sure, there's action going on. And maybe the writers look at it as "returning to the beginning". But the more I think about it, the more it feels like there's a big chunk of lazy writing. And there were an awful lot of questions that I asked as I was watching the show. How could Peter not realize he doesn't look like himself - didn't he see the color of the skin on his hands, or look down and notice that his torso's a lot stouter? And my boyfriend, who'd never seen an episode before this week, said, "Wait...wasn't there that 'save the cheerleader, save the world' stuff in the first season? But if Sylar can cut her head open but can't kill her...then logically, he shouldn't have been able to kill her in S1 either...which means that 'saving the cheerleader' was a load of crap because she didn't need to be saved."

I know that you can poke holes in any plot. And I do have abnormally high standards for this show after its first season. But I find myself thinking, "The writers had months in which to think about this...and this was the best they came up with?"

The repetition is very worrisome, and I had to admit I was in denial about that one. The only thing that can salvage this particular problem in my mind is if whatever comes of them basically putting these characters in the same situation as they were in season one, is that the outcome should be vastly different. And when I mean different, it better build into something a little more original than them ripping off every shitty comic book trope without any basic logic or research to at least not make it appear so half-assed.

They promise to explain why Claire is so important because that is still not clear but I can wait for that. I just wished they would come out and say the reason why certain events keep on happening over and over again is because Hiro and Future!Peter keep fucking with the timeline, make them pay for it, and Mohinder too the dumb ass and give the time travelling a rest. This is one of my big hopes for this season, and I think that is where they are going but I still worry that they won't pull it off.

I don't think they did anything in their 9 months personally. All they did is come up with ways to keep all their stupid ideas from the volume they lost and included it in the Villains arc which is fucking everything up.
I wonder when TV networks are going to realize bigger, more action and more skin doesn't work. It certainly didn't help the ratings.

Deep down I believe that by episode 5, excluding Mohinder and Maya because they will still be enacting The Fly and every racist/sexist steretype about women by then, the show should find its footing. I'm just scared that NBC will be ass-wipes and panic and get the producers and writers to do something even more stupid. Yes, even more stupid than getting rid of Maya's accent, decency and underwear so I just want to wait out volume 3 to see if we even get a volume 4. Heroes needs to bounce back by episode 5 or they will get their season shortened which will suck for volume 4.
Also, between me and you, my brother and I are getting meh vibes from Sendhil, which worries me more than anything else.

RL and fandom is going fine but TV land is the only thing pissing me off right now and that's not right. It's suppose to be fun, not depressing.
