Detail of 'Yuuwaku' by Audrey Kawasaki
As a number of you are aware, not long ago I posted an open letter to J.J. Abrams about Zachary Quinto's eyebrows and his upcoming role as a Vulcan (you can read it here).  I've had a number of people, both in real life and at several websites, ask if I'm really going to send it to him, while making it clear they think I should.  And I'm forced to admit that it appears that both JJ and ZQ have very broad senses of humor.  So here is your chance to weigh in on the issue:

Poll #1033818 Today's Vital Question

Should I actually send a missive to J.J. to alert him to fandom's feelings about the Eyebrows?

Yes, that would be a Grunny-approved action

No--do you WANT them to take out a restraining order that bars you from coming within 150 feet of the movie?

I'm sorry, I'm too distracted with horror at the thought of someone hurting the Eyebrows to answer right now

I think this is an awesome idea- also, on the basis of this, your fic, some other Sylariffic entries and your presence on TwoP, I would like to add you to my friends list- is that ok?

I'd be happy! In the next few days I'm going to be making the Mylar stuff "friends only" anyway (will post messages here and at mylar_fic to let people know before I do it).

SWEET!
*adds you and says hi*

I vote that you send it, but you trim it down a little. Even I didn't read the whole thing. :P

It's a very fine line. People kind of expect crazed fan letters to be long and rambling, but yes, when do they become TOO long and rambling and start to interfere with the appreciation of the crazyness? :0)

You have to wonder if your letter will get past all the secretaries and stuff who read fanmail before giving it to the stars.

Um, I guess so long as you it's obviously tongue-in-cheek it wouldn't be so bad.

On an unrelated but likewise important note - The Mylar is going friends only? Mind if I friend you?

I'd be honored to be friended! I'm still struggling with whether or not to do it. But some people would react very badly if they saw it (including a few of my RL friends), and I'm getting involved with a couple of projects that I wouldn't want to accidentally cause freakouts for, and although my bosses are pretty liberal...I don't know if they're THAT liberal. So...I don't know. I hate to make it "friends only" but am forced to admit that it might be not smart to leave it out there for someone who's pissed at me, and has found out my lj username, to find and forward to, say, my mother.

I know the dilemma. My parents are, shall we say, very Christian. Thankfully, they respect my privacy so they know I have an LJ, but they also know I don't want them to read it. I've had a couple of RL friends look at it but they were the liberal types. I think when I'm gainfully employted and actually care about my job I might do the Friends-Only thing with the fic, so I understand. It's a shame but not everyone is open-minded.

I am of the opinion that almost anything gets a pass if it's funny. And that letter? Hilarious.

I went read the letter and I'd have to say that I don't believe you should send it.
I commented on your post at heroes_sylar saying that I doubt Zach's eyebrows will be touched for the film.

As for the other issues you've brought up in the letter, seeing as how this director is taking on a Trek film for the first time, I don't believe he would be the best person to discuss older topics from the shows with him.

As for the Klingons, the show was in the 60s and at the time they couldn't do a lot with makeup beyond exotic looking eye shadow.
Gene Roddenberry wasn't alive by the time they filmed that DS9 episode.

I love Zach as well and I think his eyebrows suit him quite nicely :) But, as I said, I don't believe that fans should worry too much about it.

You are definitely sensible.
Mind if I friend you? :D

Not at all! Thanks :)
9th-Aug-2007 04:09 am (UTC)
There's no harm in it. I mean, if we're going to talk seriously about this (WTF? Serious?) there's no form of restraining order that could be taken out. And if I'm wrong and there is, I'll sneak you into the movie in a backpack.
9th-Aug-2007 04:47 am (UTC)
Yeah, there's a piece of me that is completely joking about sending it to him, but another piece that says...if you sent it and his production team thought it was funny, that would be absolutely freaking great.

Also: you did see the HeroesWiki about the Sybrows, didn't you? HEE!!!!!

I just saw it where you posted it on TWoP. OMG! Not only is it awesome, but I feel like a frickin' mini-internet celeb. In two minutes I won't be able to make an icon the way I want to make it and I'll be brought down a notch.
