...To wrestling with something that infected my computer, that's where. I had planned to write...instead I spent hours attempting to clean things up before finally giving up, backing up many GBs of files, and then re-installing the OS. I now have an excellently-functioning computer with NOTHING installed on it. Blech.

I don't know if you've heard of the phenomenon of Christopher Walken's Twitter account, but if you haven't, you really must check it out.

"There's a kid on a Pogo stick in front of my house. It's nearly midnight so let's assume he's been drinking. This should end well for him."

Unfortunately, online research shows that it's definitely a fake account. However, it's so funny you will not care. And it's disturbingly believable that Christopher Walken would say these sorts of things.

"Someone commended me for being "approachable." Okay. The truth is that I'm easily distracted and don't notice people touching me right away."

Even if you don't have a Twitter account, you can read "his" account here. I highly recommend it as a good stress relief for the start of the week.

Oh dear sweet Jesus on a pogo stick...you have to see this.

I was recently introduced to the joys of Topless Robot, which is the kind of snarky geek/comic/videogame/anime blog I wish I could write, and which I highly recommend. (It includes TWoP in its blogroll, and the humor does remind me of TWoP back in the days when it was funny.) On Fridays they post something called, appropriately enough, Fan Fiction Friday.

Think of the worst, most disturbing fanfic you've ever been tricked into reading. Then double the pain. Then quadruple it. That starts to give you an idea of the things that this blog has dredged up from the depths of the intarwebz. Look, people...things that cause you to use the phrases "Care Bears" and "S&M" in the same sentence? Just shouldn't exist. Nor should erotic scenes between a Red Koopa and a Green Koopa. Nor should femslash involving Lilo of Lilo & Stitch and the Powerpuff Girls. After all that, the Night Court mpreg looked almost normal.

Lest you think I am making this shit up, you can find it all here. I wish LiveJournal allowed longer tags, because I would tag this as both OMG That Is Horrible and Disgusting - Let's Show It To Someone Else, and I May Be Messed Up But At Least I Don't Write Dragon Ball Z / Anne Frank Crossover Fic. (That last one is safe to click on, by the way. The author keeps it PG, and gives it a happy ending, in which Goku defeats Super Saiyan Hitler and takes Anne to Australia and marries her. And the mere fact that I can state that kind of thing is safe to read, shows you just how warping some of the other stories were...)

I am in the middle of an unexpected two weeks off from work. Last week I came down with an absolutely nasty sinus infection, and had been offered a position at another place, and wound up resigning by email. I hated to do it that way, but several people I know had been hit by this virus and were out of action for days. I also, in the email, talked fairly neutrally about reasons why I was leaving and gave solid examples of things that had happened to make me want to leave. The upshot was that they told me I did not need to come back to work out my two weeks' notice.

What's sad though, is that when I went back to pick up my things and answer some questions that they had...not one mention was made of my comments about being unhappy, and I didn't have any kind of exit interview. They were all full of smiles and hopes that I'll get better soon and enjoy my new position. Which means, of course, that I've just been labeled a malcontent who was trying to stir up trouble, and not one thing will change. I told them those things because I thought I ought to make them aware of just how upsetting some of their actions have been to the lower-level staff, in the hopes that they start to actually have dialogue with the staff so that the working environment would be less toxic. I shouldn't have bothered.

What worries me is that I'm going to be made into a handy scapegoat for any problems. For instance, one of the questions they had for me was where some paperwork was. I told them it was in a certain binder. They told me that two people had searched that binder, and it was not there. I called for the binder; right there was the tab for the paperwork, and behind that tab was the damned paperwork! They said something about how they'd expected the paperwork to be arranged in a different fashion, and that's why they didn't notice the tab (ZOMGWTFBBQ?!?). What's going to happen when I'm no longer there to "fix" things like that? Are they just going to throw up their hands and declare that because they can't immediately find what they need, obviously I messed it up before I left? They've already re-arranged my cube - if they couldn't see a clearly-labeled tab that was right in front of their faces, what have they already carelessly thrown out that they'll later blame on me?

Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now, and even if they do mutter accusations, I'm already into a new job and soon those people will be able to say, "Um, I've worked with her for 6 months and never seen any indication she would do something like that."

What's hilarious is that I suspect part of why they didn't want me back, is that they were afraid I would try to "poison" other employees with my attitude (newsflash: the other employees don't need help from me to be unhappy, they already are unhappy...). So far, multiple ex-co-workers have let me know that they're furious over me being told not to come back, that they think it was really tacky that management didn't even let them get me a goodbye cake and that they're not happy with the way the transition of duties is being handled. So, management has damaged relations with their in-house team, on their own, far more than I ever could. Which is pretty much par for the course, with them. Sigh.

I have been so disconnected from anything on TV or in fandom lately. I just can't care about any shows - even getting my Moonlight DVDs didn't excite me.

Then I saw the Torchwood trailer.

Ah, Torchwood. How I've missed you. I'm just going to close my eyes and think of Owen. And compose a long letter to BBC America demanding a fucking definite air date for S3.

I am a little disjointed tonight. I have been laid low by a cold for three weeks - THREE FREAKING WEEKS I AM SO DAMNED SICK OF IT - and tonight I was irritated enough that I started drinking wine on top of it. This may not have been a good idea.

I may have been inspired by nothingtosay 's birthday to write something. Maybe. Just maybe. We'll see. Bobbity bobbuty boo!

They are now calling for us to get 3 to 6 inches of snow tonight, and another 6+ on Saturday night. So this should be a fun weekend.

Tomorrow night my work is taking us all to a Wild game for Christmas, and paying for us to eat at a very good restaurant in the arena too. They've done this three years in a row now and we all love it. Of course, it's also bringing it home to me that ZOMG IT IS ALMOST CHRISTMAS AND I DO NOT HAVE EVERYTHING DONE THAT I NEED TO HAVE DONE.

I'm hoping that the snow will hold off Saturday until we make it to the British Advertising Awards at the Walker Art Center. People, I don't know if you've ever gotten to see the commercials that win these awards, but if you ever get a chance, do it. This is the premiere December event at the Walker; they do multiple screenings a day and most of them sell out, even on weekdays. You might roll your eyes at the thought of watching an hour of commercials that "won awards", but some of them are funnier than entire full-length Hollywood movies. And some are just amazing visual pieces. Seriously. If they put these commercials out on DVD, I would buy it. Here's the commercial that won the grand prize last year...

The dentist yesterday SUCKED. It turned out that the two teeth she was working on were in worse shape than she'd expected. So the one that she thought just needed a filling replaced in, needed a *#@$*&# root canal. Plus despite the IV sedation I WOKE UP and was awake when they removed the back molar. ARGH. ARGH. ARGH.

I am better today, though I think I may have actually frightened my boyfriend. (GROSSOUT ALERT - SKIP THE REST OF THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU ARE EASILY GROSSED OUT. IF YOU ARE NOT EASILY GROSSED OUT, OR IF YOU JUST PLAIN NEED MOTIVATION TO CONQUER YOUR FEAR OF THE DENTIST AND GO BEFORE YOU WIND UP LIKE ME, KEEP READING.) I was sleeping on a heating pad yesterday afternoon after getting home and taking my Tylenol 3, and apparently a small piece of gum tissue came out of my mouth onto the heating pad. And then I drooled on it, because due to my sore gum, I was sleeping with my head tilted at a downwards angle. So my boyfriend came in to check on me, and there was a 5-inch-wide red stain spread around my mouth. He ascertained the cause right away, which made me VERY glad he was the one looking after me, because I have friends and relatives who would have started screaming and dialed 911.

Oops, I have to go. I haven't put any sunflower seed in the bird feeder in two weeks and there is a whole FLOCK of sparrows outside my bedroom window, chirping. So apparently I need to go encourage them to keep depending on my welfare handouts, and fill their feeder.

I just discovered Science Fiction Studies, a journal of essays and reviews of, naturally, science fiction works. Oddly, it's put out by DePauw University, where a good friend of mine works, but neither of us were aware of its existence. It's put out three times a year and is $26 for a subscription, which I will be doing my best to cough up. I mean, these are the sorts of articles they are publishing:

Abstract. -- This essay explores the ideological positioning of Russel T. Davies’s reinvention of the classic British TV series Doctor Who. Davies’s program has announced in its themes, settings, and allusions an unusually direct engagement with contemporary politics: specifically, the repercussions of the Al-Qaeda strikes of September 11, 2001. Like American television’s Heroes and Battlestar Galactica, the new Doctor Who argues against the totalizing strategies advanced by both sides in the war on terror, denouncing violent modes of pseudo-utopian fundamentalism in favor of pluralist and personal solutions to global problems. After reading through my flist, I have decided that there are only three ways for fandom to cope with last night's "character development" for Sylar:

1. Killing Tim Kring.
2. Crack (literal).
3. Crack (metaphorical).

After some analysis, I've determined that the least harmful of these three choices is probably the final one. (I am, however, open to hearing arguments to the contrary.) And so, I present to you my outline for a vitally important fic that I would like to write! It is titled...

The Incredible Sparkly Adventures of Lord Gabriel “Sylar” ~~Gray~~ Petrelli, His Beautiful, Intelligent and Beloved Soulmate Elle, And Their Children Gabriel Jr., Gabrielle and Mary-Sue

I've already decided that after the scene where SyGabriel and Elle are redeemed and renewed through the ~*~ Power of Empathy ~*~, a pink-and-purple flying unicorn will burst through the wall and rescue them from Papa Petrelli's evil clutches. I think the unicorn's name will be Zephyr Audrianna Ophelia Anneliese. Isn't that pretty? (By the way, the unicorn's body is actually white. Her mane and fetlocks are pink and purple, respectively.) (Oh, and did I mention that the unicorn is sparkly, too?)

After they're saved, Gabriel will use the ~*~ Power of Empathy ~*~ to put a stop to all the evil plans that are going on, and shut down the Company. Then Gabriel will ask Elle to marry him. She'll wear her late mother's wedding dress and Gabriel will have their wedding bands engraved with lines from a poem about their hearts beating as one, that he wrote himself.

Their first kids will be twins and will be named Gabriel Jr. and Gabrielle. There will be some stress in their marriage because Gabriel will be so busy using the ~*~ Power of Empathy ~*~ to help people and stop wars and natural disasters, that he won't spend as much time with the babies as Elle thinks he should. But after Elle tearfully tells him how much she loves him and misses him, he'll realize what a mistake he's made, and he'll kiss his beautiful babies and make sweet, sweet love to her. And nine months later she'll give birth to a little girl who they will name Maribella Suphronelia - Mary-Sue for short - which is a name Elle has secretly loved ever since she made it up as a little girl. And Mary-Sue will look just like Elle.

Actually, they'll have other kids too, who will be named after various relatives: Angelique and Nathaniel and Arthurina and Clarence and Petrella. And Gabriel will become so beloved for all his hard work helping humanity that one day, the US and Russia will lead a delegation asking him to become King of the World. And he'll refuse at first, but they'll persist, so eventually he'll accept, and Elle will be crowned Queen of the World along with him, and everyone will talk about how beautiful and wonderful she is and how jealous they are of King Gabriel for having such a perfect wife. And all the kids will have the ~*~ Power of Empathy ~*~, just like Gabriel, except for sweet little Mary-Sue, who only has electric hands and feels bad about it.

They'll have lots of visits from relatives, of course. Uncle Peter will stop by to visit a lot, because he never got married or had kids himself. He'll teach Mary-Sue that it doesn't matter that she isn't as powerful as all her siblings - she's still beautiful and wonderful and everybody loves her. And Mary-Sue will realize that because he was able to understand that, he still has the ~*~ Power of Empathy ~*~ hidden deep down inside him, and her love will help him regenerate his ability.

And one day Peter will break down and tell Elle that he never got married because he never stopped loving Caitlyn. So Gabriel will change the timelines back to the second dystopian future so that he can find Caitlyn, and then change them back once again after he rescues her, and Peter and Caitlyn will get married and have triplets that they name Clarissa, Clarinda and Clarielle.

Then Noah Bennet, who brought SyGabriel and Elle together, will die in his sleep of old age. And Gabriel and Elle will be very sad, and Elle will tearfully talk about how old and wrinkled she's getting and how she's got grey hairs appearing amidst her perfect golden hair. But Gabriel will kiss her and tell her he loves her more with every passing day, and he'll make sweet, sweet love to her, and nine months later she'll give birth to another set of twins, named Noah and Noelle.

But suddenly, it will turn out that one of the Elder Heroes escaped when Gabriel was neutralizing the Company! And he'll be out for revenge, and will come to kill Elle! But then at the last second, Zephyr Audrianna Ophelia Anneliese will sacrifice herself in order to save Elle. And after the Elder Hero has been safely locked away, Gabriel and Elle and all their children will come to mourn Zephyr Audrianna Ophelia Anneliese. But it will turn out that Baby Noah has the power of resurrection! And he'll heal Zephyr Audrianna Ophelia Anneliese's wounds. And they'll all live happily ever after!

(I think it's probably best to just keep it all PG-13, but I am toying with the idea of adding a scene where SyGabriel goes to visit Mohinder, and Mohinder wants to beat him up again, but then Gabriel shows Mohinder that he ~*~understands~*~ the pain that Mohinder felt after he killed Mohinder's father. And then Mohinder forgives him for everything. And then there's a XXX-rated foursome scene involving Gabriel, Elle, Mohinder, and Mohinder's scales. There will be some confusion over just who is the father of Gabriel Jr and Gabrielle, but after a paternity test eliminates Mohinder's scales as the father and Gabriel realizes he would love Elle and her beautiful intelligent children no matter who sired them, everything will be happy again.)

All I'm saying is, if you're going to let 14-year-old fanfic writers write Sylar's storyline, then you should just fucking go full-out balls-to-the-wall with it, Kring.

TORONTO -- Malcolm McDowell, Jessica Pare and Dave Foley have joined the cast for the Canadian vampire horror-comedy "Suck," from writer-director Rob Stefaniuk.

The indie film about rock 'n' roll wannabes in search of fame and vampires also stars rockers Moby, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins and Carol Pope.

Production will begin in and around Toronto on Nov. 24.

The executive producer credits on the Capri Films picture are shared by Gabriella Martinelli, former ThinkFilm founder and CEO Jeff Sackman, Brad Peyton, Terry Markus and Tim Brown.

Equinoxe Films acquired the Canadian rights to "Suck," while Insight Film Releasing holds international rights.

I realize I'm sort of spamming your flists, but considering how depressing the average Heroes-related post in my flist was today, I'd like to offer something a little lighter.

I don't know if you've ever seen a blog called "Preppies of the Apocalypse". I never had, until I Googled a slightly odd phrase and it came up near the top of the search results. They have been reviewing Heroes. The reviews themselves just bring the occasional smile. But the comments on the reviews...the comments, now, those are works of art. I've been giggling hysterically for half an hour. Observe...

"All this is well and good, but I'm sure what we were all really wondering last episode was: Where's Matt? What's he up to? Because I think some quality screen time should have been devoted to watching him follow that turtle across the desert!"

Heroes news that is probably bad: Ubisoft Drops Plans For ‘Heroes’ Game

This doesn't really affect me, as I pretty much make it a rule never to play games "based on" TV series (the couple I've been exposed to, I felt were not very exciting and were thrown together to try to take advantage of fan enthusiasm). However, it's a worrisome sign of the falling fan enthusiasm and ratings. The game was originally slated to come out in time for this Christmas season, so possibly there were other non-ratings-related issues that led to the delay and the current creative turmoil on the show was just a good excuse for the publisher to abandon a bogged-down project. No matter what, though, it's not a good sign. On the other hand, we have...

Heroes news that is probably good: 'Pushing Daisies' creator Bryan Fuller says he might return to 'Heroes'

Sad news for Pushing Daisies fans, but at the same time, it would certainly perk up my interest in the show. I don't know just how much of S1 Fuller was responsible for, but the fact remains, when he was with it, the show was something that hit me in the gut and made me care about the characters. As far along as they likely are in the season shooting schedule, even if Fuller did come back, he likely wouldn't have much of an effect on the remaning plot for S3. But if the show gets renewed for S4, his hand on the tiller would probably make a lot of people have more faith that the show is going to get better. And, let's face it, the show needs something like that desperately. I know there are people on my flist who like this season, but of the 8 real life friends who I seduced into liking the show with my S1 DVDs, only 1 is still watching it. Bringing back a good writer from S1 might be the only thing that would pique their interest again.

(And yes, I know the show gets higher ratings after DVR viewing figures are added in...but this fact has to be faced: advertisers do not give a fuck about DVR viewers because DVR viewers fast-forward through their commercials. And selling commercial time to advertisers is a giant portion of TV networks' revenue model.)

If anyone's interested, our local paper has an interactive and constantly-updated (and rather attractive) map that shows the current vote count. It's located here:

I wish I could embed the actual map, but unfortunately that's not available. Also there are occasional glitches (sometimes when I hit 'refresh', it switches the candidates' names but not the vote totals, so I have to hit 'refresh' again). But I thought it was a neat little map.

If you haven't seen this, you MUST. It is HILARIOUS. I hope everyone had a good Hallowe'en! Last night we went to a party held by a friend-of-a-friend who lives about 10 blocks from me. I was a witch: green-and-black wig, iridescent green pointy hat with feathers in it, black top with giant bell sleeves, green skirt with iridescent sparkles, and fake fingernails that glowed in the dark. S was Morticia Adams, and looked absolutely gorgeous, though she almost had to be rolled into the car because she couldn't move her legs much in the dress. Boyfriend was a redneck samurai named Cletus-san, and E was some kind of dark Satanic priest with black robe and skull makeup. Why am I describing things in detail? Because none of us took pictures, that's why. We like our fail! Yes, we do!

Of course, since I had several glasses of wine at the party, I then slept poorly and am half-zombified today. Right now I'm watching Boyfriend play Disgaea 3 while trying to decide whether or not I want to take part in NaNoWriMo. And if so, what I'm going to write. O, the fascinating life I lead...
