| You know how I keep saying "I'm going to write up a bit about seeing Zachary Quinto at Starfest" and never get around to it? ...this isn't that write-up. But the folks who ran the convention have photo galleries up now and there is a metric buttload of pictures of him. (That's a very precise, scientific measurement in Ohio, by the way. Just like BFE is a very precise, scientific description of distance. But I digress.) The photos have credits on them and the folks who ran this convention were very nice, so if you use the pics, please be nice back and give them credit. Also, if you go up to the main gallery, there are pics of Masi Oka and Adam Baldwin and Nichelle Nichols and Nana Visitor and, oh, everyone. I am heartened in looking at these pictures because they were taken by folks who were far more professional than me and yet there is still plenty of blurriness. I'm telling you, the man will not hold still. I think this big happy smile is my favorite... | |

| You know what the cutest thing in the world is? Wish I had better pics. But the lighting was awful in the main event hall, no matter what setting I used on the camera, and the light from the windows in the signing area was falling oddly and making it hard for the camera to figure out what to focus on. | |

| Well, my day at work managed to continue to be utterly unbearable, and tomorrow promises to be, as well. But you know what makes everything all better? This makes everything all better.
ETA: Want to know how pathetic I am? I have now watched this SIX TIMES.

| Today was so incredibly busy that I just now have a chance to say... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, irvys_sefie ! And as we all know, nothing says "Happy Birthday" like pictures of Sylar. | |

| First thought upon hearing Leonard Nimoy had said this: "What? Is Abrams getting a kid to play the role, too?"
Second thought upon hearing Leonard Nimoy had said this: "Did Abrams watch 'Kindred' and say, 'Well, if two Sylars made the fangirls go wild, what about two Spocks?' "

| Because it's getting cold again, and because I've lost a little weight, I've been digging through some boxes of clothing pulling out things I haven't worn in a while. And I realized that sometimes my judgment in clothing has been considered...ah...questionable, by my friends. And even on occasion by myself. So, to remind myself that perhaps I should be less judgmental when it comes to other people's outfits, I'm posting a few things here. I should note that there were several additional shirts that are even more entertaining in real life but didn't photograph well, so you're stuck with these.
I also just remembered that somewhere in one of the boxes, I have not one but two black-and-white striped tops. Shut up.

| You know what? I did not ever need to see Zachary Quinto with a fauxhawk. Ever.
That is all. ETA: likealongforgottendream just texted me with, "I'm so sorry. I didn't know Spock sported one of those."

| Well, due to all you evil, EVIL people spamming my flist with pictures from the latest issue of Z!nk, I was forced--forced, I tell you!--to go out and purchase that quality publication. And it occurred to me that although there are some wonderful scans of the ZQ pictures, there might be people who can't find the magazine (or can't afford it due to their pending purchase of Heroes DVDs) and would like to actually read the article. So if you're interested, click on the links below to download scans of the full pages. (Warning: they're PDFs that are about 2.2 MB each, and the free file delivery service only works for 7 days or 100 downloads. So if you try to dl and it doesn't work, let me know.) I had no idea Zach Levi was in the issue too, which was adorable fun. I totally want to spend the night playing Xbox with him. And that is not a euphemism. And I think my favorite bit from the Zachary Quinto interview was about his cooking: "I'm very meticulous, so when I do cook, my friends make fun of me because it takes me an hour just to cut the vegetables." Which is completely what I do. STOP MAKING ME LIKE YOU MORE AND MORE EVERY DAY, QUINTO! Zachary Quinto 1Zachary Quinto 2Zachary Levi | |

| Dear J.J. Abrams,
Congratulations on being given the chance to direct a Star Trek movie! I'll be honest and admit that I've never been a big fan of most of your other projects, but I also know you can't possibly do a worse job with Trek than Bermaga did, so I look forward to seeing what you have to offer us.
However, this letter is intended to address something of vital importance to a significant and vocal portion of the online fan community: namely, Zachary Quinto's eyebrows. I know this may not seem like a big deal to you. But what you need to understand is that many of us have spent months trying to get others to fully appreciate Zach's work on Heroes, and our efforts are often met with a scornful, "That guy is creepy and he needs to do something about those damn eyebrows."
I know it's hard to believe that people with such ignorant beliefs could exist, but they do! Personally, I don't really see why anyone would have an objection to the eyebrows. Yes, they're extremely full, but they actually draw attention to those lovely huge brown eyes of his in quite a complimentary fashion. Even if one does experience a few moments of trepidation over them, they very quickly say to one, "We're here, we're attached to the rest of him, get used to it." They're such a part of him that it's impossible to imagine him without them--or to even imagine why anyone would WANT to imagine him without them. So perhaps now you can begin to fathom why, after many attempts to make the ignorant understand this basic truth, we have become passionate about, and emotionally invested in, the integrity and intense beauty of the eyebrows.
Now, as a mild-to-moderate Trekkie, I am extremely well aware--probably more aware than Zach himself, judging by his humble admission that he didn't understand Vulcans had emotions--that Vulcans are portrayed as having very distinctive, high, thin eyebrows. I know that some Trekkies will probably mount an impassioned argument with this as a "defense" for mutilating Zach's eyebrows. To these people, I say: fuck off. Yes, continuity and canon are vital to maintaining a realistic, believable universe such as the one that the characters of Star Trek inhabit. But they are nowhere near as vital as the need to preserve Zach's sweet, lovely, thick eyebrows. So, I would like to offer you a couple of suggestions on how to deal with this potentially explosive situation:
(1) Spock very likely could have inherited human eyebrows from Amanda. Since it's been hinted that this movie may examine a period in Spock's life when he was struggling to reconcile the two sides of his heritage, what better way to reflect that struggle than to give him human eyebrows? (2) Klingon forehead ridges. Yeah, that's right, bitch, I'm going there. Why didn't they have them in TOS? Huh? "We do not speak of it to outsiders." And why is that? Because Roddenberry himself couldn't come up with a decent retcon for it! Find a way, Abrams. Find a way to explain the eyebrows, or we will become very upset. This is not a threat--this is a promise.
Also, I would like to take the time to note that in real life, I have the same first name as Spock's mother. That has absolutely nothing to do with the subject matter of this letter, but I think it's really cool and like to mention it as often as possible.
I hope this letter has made you fully understand the seriousness of this matter, and the intense need you should feel to prevent any molestation or mutilation of Zach's eyebrows. Keep in mind that we will all be watching you very closely over the next few months. We may not know where you, or any professional waxers whom you may employ on your productions, live, but we can always find out. (OK, yes, THAT is a threat.)
Very cordially yours, Forsquilis

| So it has now over 66 hours since I had pop, and I actually don't feel too bad right now. I really hope this isn't a lull before a complete collapse. Of course, I may still be on a high from hearing about Zachary Quinto officially getting the role of Spock. I was just so pathetically happy. Setting aside my opinion on his extreme attractiveness--he really is one of the best actors I've seen in quite some time, and I never would have become as engrossed in Heroes as I am if it hadn't been for his work on the show. I'm just a mild-to-moderate Trekkie, due to my inability to connect with most of the post-TNG characters for some reason, but I was very snide about this movie just because I didn't think there was any way they would find an actor who could do the role of Spock justice. But when ZQ said he was interested, I immediately went, "HELL YEAH. HE CAN DO IT." So now I get to bounce up and down for the next 16 months in anticipation of this movie...after I said multiple times that I would never care about a Trek movie again. At least I didn't say it in print. I think. The fun part of talking to fangirls online: last night I logged on to Television Without Pity and went to the Sylar thread, and there were almost two pages of posts discussing how horrible it would be if they did something to his eyebrows for the role of Spock. I had previously suggested that since he'll be playing a younger Spock, maybe they could retcon that Spock inherited human eyebrows from Amanda but later had plastic surgery to look more Vulcan. I've grown fond of the Eyebrows of Sexiness and I will defend them to the death. Yes, I am pathetic. Yes, I probably do have a problem. Shut up. I went out last night with pretenddog and talked to him about FADPOV. I'm kind of freaked out about it--I was really excited when I was invited to review some shows for it, but now I'm freaking myself out about it. I've never tried to write anything on a strict schedule before and I'm horrible at futzing over every last word, trying to make a piece "perfect", so it takes me forever to finish. I also tend to inject my skewed opinions into everything and I feel the need to be as objective as possible in writing reviews. To sum it up because this post is getting ludicrously long, I'm busily convincing myself that I'm going to suck. But he did his best to convince me that I would not suck and thought it sounded awesome. So...cool. | |
