If you haven't seen this, you MUST. It is HILARIOUS. As The Rake put it, "But for as much attention has been devoted to voters throughout America – Republican, Democrat, independent and especially the undecideds, to whom both Palin and Biden have offered everything up to and including oral gratification if they’d just get down from the fence – one vital demographic has been overlooked. Level 70 Alliance paladins."

Another weekend spent offline, due to the ongoing cold and social gatherings.

Boyfriend and our friend E have been trying to get me to get a World of Warcraft account. Boyfriend had quit playing for about 10 months, but after I introduced him to E, E sucked him back in, and he moved over to E's server even though he prefers not to play PvP. So this weekend, we're playing Magic, and they begin discussing what I should be in WoW:

Boyfriend: You know what she would be? A warlock.
E: You are so right. That's how she plays this game. She just sits there quietly, and then pops up and annoys you to death. And laughs while she does it.
Boyfriend: A rogue warlock, probably.
E: Oh, definitely.
Boyfriend: No! No, she'd be a gnome warlock!
E: ARRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!! The way they hide behind something, and suddenly you're taking damage, but you can't even figure out where the person attacking you is located? And you just KNOW they're sitting there laughing as you die?
Boyfriend: That is SO how she would play the game. It fits her style perfectly.
E: (to me) I hate you already.

Back at Comic Con, I mentioned to [info]aelora that some people in the Motivator thread at TWoP had done Heroes/WoW motivators. I promised I'd send them to her, and just now dug them out. But it occurred to me that other gamers on my flist might find them funny, so I'm posting them here. They were mostly done by Chainlightning, who was frequently in the Heroes and Jericho forums, and one of the few truly funny motivator-makers who I miss.  A few of them were done by Valeeth, which I believe is [info]barhaven  's name over in those parts.  The maker's name is included in each picture's file name.  I think my favorite is the item description for "Sylar's Watch of Identity Crisis"...

Nerfing: it's not so funny when it happens to YOUR class, is it? )

My friend E said to me this winter, "You should have plenty of boyfriends. Because women like you, who are actually interested in gaming and science fiction, are rare, and there are plenty of gamers out there who would love a girlfriend who talks about this stuff with them." (For the record, E has said of himself that if his wife hadn't found him, he would probably be living alone in his parents' basement surrounded by technology right now.)

So here's how much of a gaming girlfriend I am. This weekend, K said hesitantly to me, "You know, after you went to sleep, I was wide awake and just couldn't drift off myself. So I listened to you breathe for about a half-hour...and then I went downstairs and played Oblivion till 5:30 am."

And I did not find this offensive at all, as he apparently feared I might - frankly, I'm happy he went down there instead of tossing and turning and potentially waking me up.

He does claim that he's through with WoW for good.  But as E's wife S said, "Riiiiiiight.  No more Warcraft.  Kind of like how crack addicts can stop smoking any time they want to."  But, you know, I'm prepared for what to do during the eventual relapse.  I still haven't played Viva Pinata, even though I bought it several months ago.

Detail of 'Yuuwaku' by Audrey Kawasaki

Well, I finally am having my Weekend of Doing Absolutely Nothing, which I've been wanting since Hallowe'en, and it's going quite relaxingly.  Except that no one is online to chat with.  How dare you all decide to go out and have real lives, on the weekend that I am actually around?  Huh?

Of course, I may not be having much of a real life for a while, as I turned down three separate invitations to Do Things this weekend and may have irritated some people.  But, man...I really needed a couple of days of doing nothing.  And when I woke up sick on Friday morning, I decided that the time was definitely here.  I have only been outside of the house once since Thursday night...and it feels good.  (And yes, I realize that it's easy to stay inside for three days when the temperature outside is 19 degrees.  Don't harsh my buzz of lazy relaxation, man.)

Unfortunately, my one trip outside of the house involved...Ikea.  That place needs to be destroyed for the good of mankind.  I went in intending to buy some more of those translucent glass plates - my main set of plates has this purple/blue/green checked pattern, and the purple, blue and green plates at Ikea perfectly match it.  However, every time I went, they would be out of the blue plates and bowls.  They did finally have them in stock this weekend.  However, they also had in stock some little palm plants with long curly leaves...and that big stock pot that I've wanted to buy for over a year...and purple rag rugs that will look nice on my front porch...and the Christmas decorations were 70% off!  At any rate, I ended up spending the Christmas money I should have used to pay bills, on a cartful of lovely things from Ikea.  I want to, like, take pictures of my new things, they warm my heart so.

(Sadly, proving that Heroes is inescapable: as I was putting the dishes into my cart, it occurred to me that neither Sylar nor Mohinder would approve of my choices.  Sylar would point out that there were some perfecly good black dishes that I totally ignored.  Mo would disapprove of the fact that the dishes matched.)

I used the last of the Christmas money to order breakfast...lunch...whatever...from Pizza Luce, and that has just arrived, so I am off to eat it while playing another game of Civ IV.  (The one I played yesterday, I made the mistake of having too large of a world.  Everyone had plenty of room to expand, so no one started any wars.  Booooooring.)

I try to stay kind of divorced from gaming news because I just have too many other things I'm supposed to be doing with my time, and I have two online games and several on my computer that I should spend time with if I really want to play something.

But I just found out that Viva Pinata was released for Windows this weekend!!!  Oh man.  I am having to restrain myself from running out to Best Buy to get it right this instant.  And this was on top of learning over the weekend that Lego Star Wars was just released for the Wii.  I.  WANT. NOW.
