I miss being in a fandom.

Whose Line WTF
Part of the reason why I'm never around online any more is that I just don't have any shows that I'm into right now.  I mean, NOTHING.  Except, possibly, for Dr. G: Medical Examiner, and if that has a fandom I really don't want to be part of it, and I suspect it will disappear once Discovery Health channel becomes OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network (please excuse me while I fucking barf).

I've tried to watch a couple of shows but I just can't seem to connect with anything.  Except...I'm starting to get interested in Portlandia.  It's a sketch comedy series starring Fred Armisen from SNL and Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney.  And I'm getting interested despite the fact that IFC is advertising it ad nauseum, which usually turns me against things.  And, of course, there are only about 7 people in the entire U.S. who watch IFC, which means I won't be able to actually talk to anyone about it.  But...I'm getting interested in it.

So, you know...that's something.

Here's a video clip from it, of the song The Dream of The 90's (Is Alive In Portland). I am not ashamed to admit that a lot of the outfits I wore in the 90s looked like the one that Carrie wears in the last scene (and, frankly, if I ever lose weight, I'll probably start dressing like that again, no matter how inappropriately old I am).

Also, everything they're saying in that video is true.

Actually, when I started seeing commercials for this, I wondered if you knew about this show. Seriously. And, also, I wondered whether it was accurate... :0)

I didn't, but now I'll have to watch it!

It is completely, 100% accurate. Everything they mention can be supported with experiences from my own life in Portland.

Come play in the Sherlock fandom! The show is awesome, and the fandom is active and full of great fic. Also, my icon illustrates another reason. ^_^

I've actually heard good things about that from a couple of sources. I haven't tried it out because I tend to be a stickler for canon, so "reimaginings" often don't go over very well with me. But we've got Netflix set up for streaming videos now, so I may have to check it out.
