So. Because I'm bored over lunch, I decided to catalog the status of my attempts to lure various people into watching Heroes:
spikegoddes: Tried showing her Unexpected, online. She was not impressed and kept demanding to know why Zachary Quinto's eyebrows don't scare me. Finally I gave up, though if I email files to her or send her something in the mail, I always try to slip a picture of him in there to irritate her. One day, I'll get her, and then I'll mock her mercilessly.
likealongforgottendream: showed her the rerun of Distractions on Sci Fi, followed by Run! and Unexpected online. She's the one who initially said, "That guy is fucking creepy and he needs to do something about the eyebrows", but very quickly turned into, "I know I'm supposed to hate him because he cuts people's heads open, but he's just so endearing!" She's really tight on money so I bought her the DVDs as a present. Now I'm getting constant text messages about the hotness that is Mohinder, though the adorableness of Hiro is also becoming a frequent subject. She hasn't worked her way up to Gabriel Gray yet, so I'll be interested to see how that goes.
dream's dad: he doesn't like anything and only agreed to watch the DVDs because they don't have cable and he couldn't find ANYTHING else tolerable to watch. By the end of the second episode, he was asking when the new season was going to start.
dream's mom: she was at least interested from the beginning, and is now completely obsessed. Her theory was that the Haitian would secretly turn out to be Sylar. Dream informed her this was wrong. Now she's insisting that the mysterious Mr. Linderman is going to turn out to be Sylar, even though dream told her again she was wrong.
My brother: said he's interested, but he's still got a bunch of episodes of last season's Smallville that he's working through on his DVR and wants to finish that before he starts another show. I think I may have to disown him. Who wanted to watch Smallville last season?
Sher: the night that she, E and I drank far far too much wine, I dragged her into the office and made her watch various Sylar and Mohinder highlights online. Then the Friday before Labor Day, I took my DVDs over and we watched the first three episodes. She then proceeded to watch the entire show over the weekend and couldn't wait to get together and talk to me about it.
E: pronounced the show to be "gay" and refused to watch it. However, he was really just pouting because he'd wanted to watch Rob Zombie movies instead. I was over there on Labor Day watching the final few eps with Sher, and several times he forgot he wasn't supposed to be interested and asked us questions about it.
My parents: "that show has too many plots and way too many characters. It's too much of a pain to keep all that straight." Again: disownment is a distinct possibility.
J: had been rather aloof about it, until Sher and I started chattering away about the show in front of her. I offered her the DVDs Friday night, and Saturday evening she texted both of us to damn us to hell for essentially giving her crack. Then she texted demanding to know when she was going to actually get to see Sylar's face, since she'd heard so much about it.
Big Sev: I wasn't even trying to get him addicted, but shortly after J's outburst, he added his curses. Apparently, instead of going out for the evening, he stayed home to watch with her, and is just as hooked.
So, that's 6 out of 11 who got into it, with another couple who are on the fence. Which gives me a batting average of around .636. Not too shabby.
