Random (Heroes) thoughts for September 30, 2007

Detail of 'Yuuwaku' by Audrey Kawasaki
I rewatched the beginning of the S2 premiere and just thought I'd spam your flist--er, enrich your mind with a few random thoughts about the preview at the start of the episode.

There was a thunderstorm warning when this initially aired here, and right at the clip of Kirby Plaza where Peter is flickering and about to lose control, the warning started beeping almost exactly in time with Peter's flickering.  I just found that amusing.

Am I the only person wondering why bloody mouths appear to be this year's hottest fashion accessory for serial killers?

For some reason, the scene that most intrigues me is the final one, where Nathan rushes out onto the rooftop of the Deveaux building.  I don't think I've seen anyone else talk about this, but...doesn't the state of the greenhouse/pigeon coop look an awful lot like the post-exploding-man destruction that we saw in Five Years Gone?

Oh. I just checked my messages.  J finishing watching S1 of Heroes tonight (you should have seen the texts I got from her last night worrying about Mohinder's health...the whole "road trip with Zane" storyline was almost more than she could bear.)  Tonight there were just two:

"Future Peter is way cooler than Present Peter."
"A freaking MANHOLE?!?"

A resounding "Yes!" on the Nathan rooftop scene. Every time I have tried to watch the replay, that is the clip from the opening montage I am most interested in. Throw in the fact that, during the commentary, they mentioned that almost all of those flashes would not end up being what you initially think they are, and that just made me even more interested. The first time I saw it, I noticed the devastation and thought "oh yeah, post-bomb." It was only a short while ago, when it dawned on me that the present bomb did not go off in that way, that I realized what I was actually thinking about was the FYG bomb. :Mohinder::

You know, I may be the only person on the planet who actually liked Present Peter better than Future Peter. Of course I was not very big on 5YG as an episode. Perhaps I am just doing it to be contrary.

The reason I preferred Future Peter over Present Peter, is the same reason I preferred Sylar over Peter: Future Peter and Sylar have balls. Which is why I may end up reconsidering my stance on Second Season Peter, if his amnesia causes him to forget he's supposed to be emo. Hee! I don't know why I suddenly thought of this, but wouldn't it be funny if "the box that contains his identity" was all fake, and said that he was Sylar?

I don't know why, but for some reason I just can't get into Future Peter (with 157% more Badassery!) I am not sure why, it just rings false. Like I look at him and go, "Really? You? Get outta here!" (I have the same issue with Future Hiro) Maybe it was because I watched everything up to Landslide over the span of two days, but I found it hard to believe that this super emo kid, who I had been watching stumble and whine his way through everything for like 22 hours straight would, one day, be that guy. It just all very sudden, and I was like, "I don't buy it." As I have said before, I may have issues.

You know, whenever called on it, all of my friends claim to choose Peter over Sylar specifically for the fact Pete went all Badass! in the future. Yet, when I point out that Sylar is Badass! now, they give me the "But look at him! He was a nerdy watchmaker!" excuse. Which sounds a bit like having your braaains and eating them too. (Or, not-eating them, as the case may be) I mean, Peter was a nurse, was he not?

but wouldn't it be funny if "the box that contains his identity" was all fake, and said that he was Sylar?
Even the very association with the name would make Peter cooler. Of course then, by being Team Sylar, would be be actually supporting Peter? What a conundrum!

And now, as if this was not long enough.. I am going to go comment down there! ::points to other reply::

I'm curious as well. Striped Wall has a wider shot, but it's all pixel-y and screwed up, but to answer your question...yes.

Wow - it was snowing in that shot? I didn't remember that. I must have been too focused on the broken doors and glass.

You know, I don't want what the Elder Heroes were trying to do, to be "right". But I am actually hoping that there turn out to be repercussions this season that make it sound like letting the bomb go off WOULD have been the right thing to do. I just like the moral greyness of it all.

Look! I'm down here too! I am a (long-winded) commenting machine!

Me too. I mean, we all know they thought they were doing the right thing, but just from the makeup of the group, it's pretty obviously that their idea of "right" and what is commonly believed to be "right" are probably two very different things. Of course that would just heap more misery upon poor Nathan. Then we'd be in some bizarro world where Peter is the tough Petrelli and Nathan the Emo. Imagine that.

Tuesday commented over in my LJ about how she'd like it to turn out that Nathan was, in fact, working with the person who was killing the Elder Heroes, in some sort of revenge for what they orchestrated. I had not considered that, but I like that too. Now of course I expect to be at least mildly disappointed in whatever actually does come to pass.
